Location: Lake of the Dead

divergenttranslation: (north)
The Lake of the Dead is a location in the North Country that can be used for training, connected to the North wizard Mithra.

In Game Description:

While it is an excellent source of water, this lake has a harsh climate. Any sort of civilization that forms on its outskirts has eventually perished one after the other. There is an island in the center of the lake, where Mithra, having taken on the role of ‘ferryman’, gathers the bodies of the dead. Because of the corpses littering the shoreside, the villagers have taken to calling that island ‘The Land of the Dead’. As for Mithra himself, it seems that he had grown up alongside the frozen bones.

Location Gimmick:

----------------------------------
Gimmick Explanation:

Well, it's time to go fishing for lost items in a lake of dead bodies, because that's literally what this location gimmick is all about. Don't worry too much about where this stuff came from.

But as the comic states above, your main goal is to interact/rest to 'steer' your boat, and in doing so, get the items and effects you want! So here are the details on how to do so.

Heading Gauge:

This is the indicator on the special command button that also determines what type of item you are going to get.

Succeeding in interaction will make you go Right.
Resting will make you go Left.
Getting 'Success' several times in a row will make the gauge increase even further.

The degree value from this will determine what item you will get, as shown in the comic. However there is another important detail:

Items from 1°-60° can be taken back with you after training is done.
Items from 61°-120° will be USED AUTOMATICALLY your next turn.

This is important to remember because the ones that are used automatically this location will not be taken with you at the end of the training session. They are just essentially free item effects.

Below here is a table of the different items that can be found at each gauge amount:

Heading GaugeFound Items
1°-30° (gain)
31°-60° (gain)
61°-90° (use)
91°-120°(use)

What item you get or will get the effect of will be displayed in the special location menu as seen below.

You can check this menu at any time, without costing a turn.

Once you have the item you want in 'view', you'll notice there are two options at the bottom on how to pick up the items.

How to Pick up items:

1. Stamina: this is self explanatory. Like in the comic, pressing this button will consume the amount of stamina shown and then it will always give you the item that you had 'discovered.'

2. 'Parameters': using parameters is how you can get a 'Great Success'. Getting a 'Great Success will allow you to get that item you discovered plus one extra RANDOM item, but if you fail, you will get nothing at all.

The success rate is based on the value of your scenario partner's highest parameter, and will be displayed on the button as well.

Wait command:

This is the button to the left of the pick up command, and can add one more special effect to the items you pick up.

When using the wait command, the turn will progress to the next, but when you do so the heading gauge will be fixed in place, and the effects/amount of items picked up will be doubled.

Remember:
Any items 60° or lower you will get double of. 61° and higher will have their effects last for twice as long!

So essentially the goal is to set your gauge at what item you want, and then use the other commands to 'maximize your profit' so to speak. It's a simple concept but with a lot of moving parts, so definitely try to experiment!

Extra:
  • items and heading gauge is taken over all parts, but using both 'wait' and 'pick up' will consume a turn and stamina!
  • If the extra random item you picked up was one of the 61° or higher effects, you will not be able to pick up new items until it is over! This goes for if it was doubled as well.
