Faust: …I am a well liked and talkative young man who is always cheerful.
Faust: Hmm…I see. Then…..cats are really cute.
Cain: Faust? Are you around here somewhere??
Faust: Cain?? Um, I’m right here. Here, touch my hand.
Cain: Thanks. Hey, weren’t you chatting with someone just now??
Faust: I’m alone here, thank you. I found these old magic tools, so I’ve been using this place to test their efficacy.
Faust: Here, look at this doll.
Cain: Wow, this little guy looks super cool! The wood grains, and its empty, cold** expression give it a nice vibe!
Cain: Also, I think there’s a little hint of magic in it. Would it be able to have a talk with me?
Faust: I…suppose you can, but its function is that it shows whether what you’re saying is the truth or not.
Faust: For instance….Cain is a well-liked, cheerful and talkative young man.
Faust: See-if you speak the truth it raises its right hand, and if you lie, it raises its left.
Faust: I had incidentally received this as a reward for a job, but it didn’t really have a purpose. It did look like a toy, so I did think maybe I should bring it to show the kids if nothing else…
Cain: I…Well, truth is, I’m actually pretty shy with strangers.
Faust: Eh?
Cain: I’d also rather lock myself up in my room all day. And stuff like getting up early isn’t really my strong point…
Cain: Oh. it raised its left hand. How’d you get that I was lying so quickly?
Faust: What the hell…If you suddenly start saying a bunch of strange things, you shouldn’t be surprised it did!
Cain: Ah, my bad, my bad. That was at least realistic, right?
Cain: Okay then, how ‘bout this? One time I took Oz by the hand, and we danced together in the ballroom.
Faust: Doing a hand-holding formal dance like that, I’d expect….the right hand??!! That wasn’t a lie??!!
Cain: Well, one of us had to lead the other, though neither of us wanted to give in.
Cain: So I was like “May I have this dance?”, and then held out my hand. That got us paired up, though in the end we ended up taking turns leading.
Faust: Oz being your partner for such a thing….these kids are the embodiment of recklessness, I swear….
Faust: I…am not going to touch that further. That aside, didn’t you come around here because you had something to take care of, Cain?
Cain: Oh, that’s right-I was. Riquet wanted to ask if you had any plans to review your last session in the future…
Cain: Hey, if you didn’t mind, why don’t you lend the doll out a bit?
Faust: I don’t mind, but wouldn’t that not be studying? Everyone would be distracted by this thing instead.
Cain: Well, it might be like that, but they'd probably also be really interested in it; besides, I wanna show it to Riquet. Y’all should take a break from studying!
Cain: Ah…but originally, didn’t you bring this thing along for Heath and Shino?
Faust: No, it’s not that. I don’t mind lending it out, but since I heard those kids are on an urgent mission, I don’t want them to get left out.
Faust: Besides, since Riquet usually gets curious about things like these, he will want to introduce everyone to it ….why are you grinning?
Cain: Sorry, it’s just….well, every time you talk, I think the doll is raising its right hand….
Faust: ….We’re done talking. Ugh, it isn’t lowering its hand. I wouldn’t lie when talking about these things!
Cain: Ahaha-Okay, I’m definitely gonna borrow it now. Riquet’s gonna love this.
Cain: Don’t worry, I’ll return it here when we’re done with the study session! Oh, Arthur’s probably also gonna love this doll, so we should all play with it together when we get back!
Faust: Please do that. Hey, I’m leaving. After you hand that thing out, don’t let it interfere with your studying.
Cain: Yeah. Thanks, Faust!
((**Fun fact, Cain actually uses the adjective ニヒル here, which really means nihilistic. I looked into it and it turns out it has been sort of skewed by people so now it is often used to describe someone who is 'cold and unfeeling', but without more context of whether this was something the sage taught him or he was trying to use it straight, I'm just going with the funniest option b/c tbh, it's Cain. ))
